Abstract

696,849. Ventilating vehicles. MORRIS, Ltd. April 18, 1952 [April 24, 1951],. No. 9464/51. Class 137 [Also in Group XIII] In a heating in. stallation for a motor vehicle ir which air, heated by hot engine coolant, is supplied to the vehicle space, two radiator section: or alternatively two separate radi ators 1, 1A are provided which are jointly cap able of dissipating the maximum heat output of the engine coolant and are so incorporated in the engine cooling system that one receives coolant from the upstream, and the other (when permitted) from the downstream side of the usual thermostat 4, the radiator or radiators being mounted within ducting having a frontal intake, the flow through which is fan-assisted, and valve controlled outlets being provided whereby the whole or part of the heated air may be delivered to the vehicle space or discharged to atmosphere. In Fig. 2 the radiators are mounted in separate ducts 5, 6 the duct 6 discharging to atmosphere and the duct 5 discharging fresh air heated by the radiator 1, alternatively by operation of valve 10, to the duct 11 and grille 12 and thence to the vehicle space or to atmosphere through the grille 13. A valve controlled duct 14 for unheated air is provided which duct also discharges through the grille 12. Alternatively the duct for unheated air may be incorporated in the duct 5. In other alternative arrangements, the radiators 1, 1A, whilst functioning separately, are combined in a single structure and may be both built into one air duct whilst the other duct is used to supply unheated air to the vehicle space.
