Abstract

1369469 Air heaters J EBERSPACHER 7 Dec 1971 [3 March 1971] 56815/71 Headings F4S and F4K In a vehicle heating system, fresh air enters a heating-duct 1 through an inlet 10 either under pressure or drawn in by the suction of a fan 16. The air is heated by an auxiliary heater 20, which comprises a heat exchanger feed with heating fluid by a pipe 60, the fluid being heated by a burner 5 mounted externally of the duct 1. The air then passes through main heater 22, which uses the cooling water of the engine 3, before passing to the interior of the vehicle via ducts 38, 40. The preheating burner 5 has a fresh air intake 76, the air being passed to an annular passage 88. Some of this air is drawn into a combustion chamber 96 by a blower 94 through inlets 98. Fuel for burning is supplied to an inlet 104 which has a sparking plug 108. The gases from the chamber 96 pass through an outlet 110 to outlet connection 72 where fresh air flowing through the casing 88 mixes with the exhaust gases.
