Abstract

696,825. Swivelling pipe joints. BRITISH MESSIER, Ltd. June 8, 1951 [Sept. 14, 1950], No. 22660/50. Class 99 (i). In a swivel joint a sealing ring 20 of a wearresisting flexible material having little tendency to stick to metal, such as polyvinyl fluorethylene, is secured to a socket member 13, and has a sealing lip 23 which is forced against the surface of a spigot member 11 by fluid pressure acting on a rubber ring 26 which surrounds the lip. The ring is anchored by lugs 21 engaging notches therein, and by a retaining ring 18 and circlip 19. A pair of rings 20, 26 are arranged on each side of ports 15 in the spigot. In a modification the rubber rings 30, Fig. 2, bear against the end faces of the wear-resisting rings 34 which have small conical sealing lips 36. The rubber rings are pressed apart by a coiled spring 33. Specification 481,762, [Group XXVI], is referred to.
