Abstract

696,657. Variable-pitch propellers. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORPORATION. Feb. 28, 1951. [May 25, 1950] No. 4853/51. Class 114. A lock to maintain the existing pitch is closed by a spring 344 and is opened by hydraulic pressure from the return line 322 from the pitch changing motor 314 to the sump. If the pitch changing demand is large the outputs of both the main pump 32 and the auxiliary pump 34 are added together by the relief valve 60. When it is required to feather the blade, an auxiliary motor operates the pump and the resulting pressure is led by the by-pass 350, the relief valve 45, and the main valve bore 46 to the conduit 340, thus opening the pitch lock.
