Abstract

696,133. Centrifugal machines. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. Oct. 4, 1951 [July 5, 1950], No. 16846/50. Class 23 [Also in Group XXVI] Air which has been used for cooling shaft bearings of an axial-flow compressor or of its driving turbine passes forwardly through a conduit 52 contained within the hollow shaft 13 of the compressor, and thence between struts 59 into a chamber 54, where it enters a centrifuge 61 through ports 61f. Oil is centrifugally separated from the air and returns to chamber 54 , through a slot 61h, while the cleansed air flows radially inwardly between a wall 61b and a baffle 61c and thence through drillings 61e into a chamber 55, from which it is exhausted through hollow struts 59, a chamber 56 anc hollow struts 21.
