Abstract
902,301. Centrifugal separators. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., and BOYLAND, D. A. March 14, 1947 [Feb. 27, 1946], No. 6126/46. Class 23. The rotor of a separator has a radial channel for discharge of the light fraction and communicating with the axial part of the main space within the rotor and with an exhaust chamber so that the light fraction is evacuated by a centrifugal pumping action. The rotor is suspended by a hollow shaft 16 from a turbine 17, and has a lower bearing 21. The radial channels are formed between rotor webs 31 and partitions 32, holes 37 communicating with the axial space of the rotor. The outer ends of the channels communicate through ducts 36 with a chamber 27 formed by a skirt 20 on the rotor and an annular fence 19 fixed in the casing. The light fraction is withdrawn from the chamber 27 through a duct 26. Light fraction leaking from the rotor is withdrawn through a duct 29 by a pump 30 which maintains the space between the casing and rotor at a vacuum. In a modification the radial channel is formed by a closed loop of flexible metal sheet. Specification 608,692 is referred to.
