Abstract

The invention comprises copper-containing disazo dyestuffs of the formula <FORM:0695748/IV (c)/1> where Y is hydrogen or alkyl and Z is hydrogen, alkyl, phenyl or substituted phenyl. These are made by coupling J acid urea with 1 mol. of diazotized 2-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid (or its methyl ether) and 1 mol. of the appropriate diazotized 2-aminophenol-4-sulphonamide (or methyl ether thereof), and coppering the product. The two diazo compounds may be added separately in either order. The coppered products dye cotton and regenerated cellulose in Bordeaux shades. In the examples the following dyestuffs are made and treated with ammoniacal copper oxide: (1) 2-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid --> J acid urea \sM 2-aminophenol-4-sulphonanilide; (2) 2-amino-phenol - 4 - sulphon - N - ethylanilide --> J acid urea \sM 2-aminoanisole-4-sulphonic acid; (3) 2-aminoanisole-4-sulphonic acid --> J acid urea \sM 2 - aminoanisole - 4 - sulphonamide. Other suitable components are listed, in which Y and Z are hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, propyl, phenyl, p-tolyl, o-methoxyphenyl and m-chlorophenyl.
