Abstract
The process of the parent Specification for the production of azo dyes on acetyl cellulose, linear polyamide and polyurethane fibres is modified by using as the coupling component an alkali metal compound of an acyl-acetic acid arylamide of the formula:- <FORM:0745830/IV(c)/1> wherein R3 is alkyl or aryl, X is alkyl or alkoxy, Y is alkoxy or halogen and Z is alkyl, alkoxy or halogen with the proviso that Y is halogen and Z is alkyl or alkoxy, or Y is alkoxy and Z is halogen if X is alkoxy, and Y is halogen and Z is alkoxy if X is alkyl. In an example cellulose acetate yarn is treated in an aqueous bath at 75 DEG C. containing the diazotisable bas - 1 - amino - 2 ethoxybenzene - 5 - carboxylic acid-n-butylamide and, as coupling agent, the sodium salt of 1 - acetoacetylamino - 2:5 - dimethoxy - 4 chlorobenzene, together with diethanolamine, sodium chloride, ammonia and the condensation product obtained from oleic acid chloride and albumen decomposition products, preferably lysalbic acid, according to Specification 413,016, diazotisation is then effected with acidified sodium nitrite solution and the dye developed with hot aqueous sodium acetate-oleylmethyltaurine solution.
