Abstract

327,380. Johnson, J. Y., (1. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Oct. 1, 1928. Samples furnished. Azo dyes and soluble metal compounds thereof. -Azo dyes are made by coupling an o-hydroxydiazo compound with a 4-hydroxy-quinolone of the general formula in which R = alkyl, aralkyl or a cyclic radicle which may be substituted and X = hydrogen or any substituent, the reacting components being so chosen that the product contains at least one sulphonic group. They may be used as mordant dyes, may be after-chromed and may be converted into complex metal compounds. In examples (1) the dyestuff 4-chlor-2-aminophenol-6-sulphonic acid # N-phenyl-4-hydroxy-2-quinolone is treated with chromium oxide hydrate and formic acid, (2) the dyestuff 4-nitro-2-aminophenol-6- sulphonic acid # N-ethyl-4-hydroxy-2-quinolone (from N-ethyl-anthranilic acid and acetic anhydride) is described, (3) diazotized picramic acid is coupled with Bz-sulphonic-N-methyl-4-hydroxy- 2-quinolone (obtained by sulphonating N-methyl- 4-hydroxy-2-quinolone), (4) diazotized 1-amino-2- naphthol-4-sulphonic acid is coupled with N- methyl-4-hydroxy-2-quinolone, (5) the dyestuff 4- chlor-2-aminophenol-6-sulphonic acid # N-(2<1>- methoxyphenyl)-4-hydroxy-2-quinolone [from N- (2<1>-methoxyphenyl)-anthranilic acid and acetic anhydride] is treated with chromium oxide hydrate in formic acid solution.
