Azo dyes, soluble chromium compounds of.- The azo dyes obtained by coupling o-oxydiazo compounds with acetoacetic esters or arylides are converted into chromium compounds by heating them in aqueous solution, under pressure, in the absence of a water-soluble organic solvent, with chromium compounds in such proportions as to provide at least one atom of chromium to each chromable group in the dyestuff molecule. In an example, the dyestuff obtained by coupling diazotized 4-nitro-2-aminophenol-6-sulphonic acid and acetoacetic anilide is heated in an autoclave with a solution of chromium hydrate in formic acid; the product, obtained by salting out, dyes wool in fast yellow shades. A similar product is obtained from the dyestuff obtained by coupling the same diazo compound with acetoacetic ethyl ester. Specifications 15456/15, 235,862 and 283,979 are referred to.
