Abstract
The invention comprises water-insoluble mono-azo dyestuffs of the general formula <FORM:1043060/C4-C5/1> wherein X1 represents the residue -COO.R or <FORM:1043060/C4-C5/2> R is an alkyl, hydroxyalkylor alkoxyalkyl group, R1 and R2 are H atoms or alkyl groups, X2 and X3 represent monovalent substituents that do not contain water-solubilizing groups, in particular H or halogen atoms or NO2 group and B represents the residue of a coupling component free from water-solubilizing groups. They may be obtained by coupling diazotized aminodiphenyl derivatives of the formula <FORM:1043060/C4-C5/3> with coupling components B-H. Specified coupling components are pyrazolones, hydroxybenzenes, hydroxynaphthalenes, aminobenzenes and acetoacetic acid arylides. Examples are given for the production of the dyestuffs. They may be used for dyeing or printing textiles made from natural and synthetic fibres yellowish to reddish-yellow shades.ALSO:The b -hydroxy-propyl ester of 41-carboxy-4-amino -diphenyl is obtained by reacting 4-nitro-diphenyl -4-carboxylic acid with propylene oxide in dimethylsulphoxide in the presence of FeCl3, followed by subsequent reduction of the NO2 group. The compound is used in the preparation of dyestuffs (see Division C4).
