Abstract

The invention comprises disazo dyestuffs of the general formula <FORM:0701442/IV(c)/1> (wherein R represents hydrogen or a methyl group and R1 an alkyl group of 1-4 carbon atoms), and the manufacture thereof by diazotizing one or more aminosalicylic acids, coupling with an equimolecular proportion of a -naphthylamine, diazotizing the resulting monoazo compound and coupling in alkaline medium with an equimolecular proportion of an appropriate 2-mono- or di-alkylamino-8-naphthol-6-sulphonic acid. The products dye wool in blue-grey shades. In examples the following first and end components are employed: 3-amino-6-hydroxybenzoic acid, and the mixture of aminosalicylic acids obtained by reduction of the mononitration product of salicylic acid; 2-mono-and dimethylamino-, 2-ethylamino- and 2-n-butylamino-8-naphthol-6-sulphonic acid.
