Abstract

The invention comprises dyestuffs of formula <FORM:0732121/IV (c)/1> where X is H, an alkyl radicle of not more than 5 C atoms, an alkoxy group of not more than 4 C atoms or CnH2nOY, where n is 1-3 and Y is an alkyl radicle of not more than 4 C atoms. The dyestuffs are made by coupling diazotized 2 - amino - 4 - trifluoromethyl - benzenesulphuric acid with the requisite naphthalene derivative. Specified coupling components are 2-acetyl-, -propionyl-, -n-butyryl-, -isobutyryl-, -methoxyacetyl-, -ethoxyacetyl-, -isopropyloxyacetyl-, -n-butoxyacetyl-, -g -methoxy-propionyl-, -formyl-, -carbomethoxy- and -carboethoxy - amino - 5 - naphthol - 7 - sulphuric acid. Wool, silk and leather are dyed from an acid bath in bright orange shades. Examples are provided showing the preparation of dyestuffs from certain of the above specified components and their use in dyeing wool. In the Provisional Specification, X may also be an alkyl group of not more than 6 C atoms and the H attached to N may also be an alkyl radicle of not more than 4 C atoms. Additional components are specified.ALSO:2 - Amino - 4 - trifluoromethylbenzenesulphonic acid is made by treating 2,21-dinitro-4,41-di-(trifluoromethyl)diphenyl disulphide with chlorine in aqueous medium, hydrolysing the 2-nitro - 4(trifluoromethyl) - benzene sulphonyl chloride thus obtained and reducing the nitro group.
