Abstract

The invention comprises dyestuffs which as free acids are of formula <FORM:0769618/IV(b)/1> where R is an aryl, alkyl or amino group, which may be substituted and R1 is H or an alkyl group of 1-4 carbon atoms. They may be made by coupling an appropriate diazotized diaminodiphenylsulphide in an acid or neutral medium with a 2 - amino - or - alkylamino - 8 - naphthol - 6 - sulphonic acid. Specified amines are 4, 41 - disulphonamide - di - N - dimethylsulphonamido -, di - N - methyl - N - phenyl-sulphonamido-, dimethylsulphonyl - , dichloromethyl - sulphonyl -, - diphenylsulphonyl- and - dip - chlorophenylsulphonyl - 2, 21 - diamino-1, 11 - diphenylsulphides. The dyestuffs dye nitrogenous fibres, e.g. wool, silk and synthetic fibres in bluish-red to Bordeaux shades. Examples are provided which illustrate the preparation of the dyestuffs and their use in dying wool, the diazo components used being obtained from the above specified amines and the coupling components are 2 - amino - and - methylamino - 8 - naphthol - 6 - sulphonic acids.
