Abstract

The invention comprises dyestuffs of formula <FORM:0775048/IV(b)/1> where C is O or COO, R is a radicle of the benzene series which may contain water-solubilizing substituents and with C o - to the azo link and W is an alkyl group of up to 6 carbon atoms or the phenyl group. They may be made by coupling 1 mol of a diazo compound of an amine of the formula <FORM:0775048/IV(b)/2> where B is H or Me, and 1 mol of a diazo compound of an amine of formula b - R - NH2 where b is H, MeO or COO and is o to NH2, with 1 mol of the symmetrical urea of J acid and treating the product with copper-yielding agents. Water-solubilizing substituents specified are sulphonic acid, sulphonamide and N - alkyl and - arylsulphonamide and alkyl - and aryl - sulphonyl groups. The disazo dyestuffs are made as in Specification 695,748. Metallization, accompanied if necessary by dealkylation, is effected by known methods. Preferred dyestuffs are those in which C is O when R is a phenyl residue substituted by a methylsulphonyl, sulphonic acid, sulphonamide or N - methyl or -phenyl -sulphonamide group and in which when C is COO, R is a phenyl group which may be substituted by a sulphonic acid, sulphoneamide or N - methylsulphonamide group. The dyestuffs dye cotton and regenerated cellulose fibres in Bordeaux shades. In examples which illustrate the preparation of the coppered dyestuffs and their use in dyeing cotton and regenerated cellulose fibres the following diazo components are used 1 - amino - 2 - hydroxy - or - methoxy-5 - sulphonamides, -phenyl - methyl-sulphones and - sulphonic acids, 1 - amino - 2 - hydroxy - 5 - suphonic acid - methyl-, -dimethyl - , 41 - methyl-phenyl- and - phenyl - amides, 1 - amino - 2 - hydroxy - 3 - chlorobenzene - 5 - sulphonic acid, 1 - amino - 2 - hydroxy - 5 - ethylsulphonylbenzene, anthranilic acid, 1 - amino - 2 - carboxybenzene - 4 - sulphonic acid amide and methyl - and phenyl-amides and 1 amino - 2 - hydroxy - 4 - methylsulphonylbenzene.
