Abstract

695,668. Picture and like frames. ANGUS, M. R. June 19, 1951. [June 20, 1950] No. 14545/51. Class 11. An adjustable frame for pictures and the like comprises side and end members longitudinally recessed at the inner sides, corner pieces open at the inner sides to slidably accommodate the ends of the side and end members to vary the size of the frame, a recess being formed around the frame to receive a picture and backing sheet, and wedges forcibly inserted between the backing sheet and the opposite side of the recess to clamp the picture in position and retain the frame assembled. As shown in Fig. 1, a rectangular picture frame is made up of channel sections 2 which accommodate a glass front 11 and backing plate 10. Junction or corner pieces 4 channelled to accommodate the sections 2 are provided, the frame being held rigid by wedge members 12. The size of the frame may be varied by suitably positioning the sections 2 in the corner pieces 4. The channel sections 2 may be formed with shoulders 14 (Fig. 3), co-operating with lips 13 on the corner pieces, and with ribs 15 against which abuts the glass 11 and back plate 10. The sections 2 may also be provided with extensions 18 having a bead 22 thereon which co-operates with teeth 21 on the wedge 17. The frame may be suspended by means of members fitting over the bead 22, Fig. 5 (not shown). Fig. 4 shows an alternative construction of section 24 and corner pieces 5. In an alternative way of suspending the frame the wedges 17a (Fig. 8) may be formed with extensions 30 having T-slits 29 therein around which a suspending wire may be fastened. The wedges may be inserted in the region of the corner pieces only or may extend the whole length of a side, Fig. 6 (not shown). The wedge 17 may also be formed with an entrance 33, (Fig. 10), bent over to form a stand 35 for the frame. Alternatively, the extension 33 may be separate from but connectible to the wedge by means of a slot 36 formed in the wedge (Fig. 8).
