Abstract

In a dyeing-machine having a cylinder A rotatable within an outer casing B, liquid retainers C and co-operating scoops D are arranged to project outwardly from the surface of the cylinder and communicate with the interior thereof through perforations a1 in the surface of the cylinder adjacent to the <PICT:0694575/IV (c)/1> <PICT:0694575/IV (c)/2> liquid retainers. In Fig. 1 the cylinder A rotates unidirectionally, and the scoops D and retainers C are attached to the cylinder A. In Fig. 2 the cylinder A has its direction of rotation periodically reversed, the scoop D1 directing liquid into the retainer C2 for one direction of rotation and scoop D2 into retainer C1 for the other direction. The scoops D1, D2 are carried by radial flanges a2 or by ribs or sealing rings which rotate with the cylinder. The cylinder A may be perforated over the whole of its peripheral surface.
