1331623 Washing machines G HELD and F ELLWANGER 17 Dec 1970 [14 Jan 1970] 60012/70 Heading D1A Washing is performed at above atmospheric pressure to increase the washing temperature in a closable treatment liquid container 7 which is connected by an open-ended sealing tube 30 to a condenser 31, the tube in operation containing a steam-foam mixture, from the container 7 sealed by condensate from the condenser 31; the pressure and hence temperature in the container depending on the pressure head developed in the tube. As shown the drum 7 is supported by a hollow shaft 1 with holes 3 where it passes through a fluid distributor 2 and enclosing an outlet tube 9 from the drum to the tube 30 and a drain valve 11. Hot water is supplied to the distributor 2 from a steam-heated water heater 20 either directly or through a detergent metering vessel 27 or from a preheater 16 surrounding the condenser 31 through a second detergent metering vessel 13. From the distributor it passes through the shaft 1, radial ducts 5 and a distributing ring 6 to the drum. The washing is further heated by steam supplied to the distributor 2 through a line 29. An inlet valve 17 in this line may be controlled automatically from a thermostat 32 in the tube 30. The drum has at least two radial partitions and as shown one, 34, is perforated and the other, 37, comprises a perforated wall 36 adjacent a non-perforated wall 36. The drum is emptied by rotating it clockwise (Fig. 2) when the liquid runs down the wall 36 through the tube 9 and drain valve 11. For spin-drying the drum may be provided with spring-loaded plate valves on its periphery which open at the drum centrifuging speed, ejected liquid collecting in the casing for the drum.
