Abstract
694,487. Cathode-ray tubes. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Aug. 30, 1950 [Sept. 7, 1949], No. 23135/49. Class 39(i) A storage C.RT for producing a persistent image for e.g. a P.P.I. display comprises an electron gun 6 adapted to scan a storage screen 7-10 with modulated signals to produce a positive charge-image. Electrons subsequently emitted by a p.e. mesh 11 are partly absorbed by the charge-image and partly reflected back through the mesh into an axial field produced by coils 12 to produce a visible image on the luminescent screen 4. The storage screen comprises a transparent carrier-plate 7 having a p.e. mosaic 9 on one side and a phosphor 8 with an aluminium backing 10 on the other side. For initial equalisation of the mosaic and subsequent emission of electrons from the screen 11, an external light is projected through the aluminium layer on to the screen and mesh. Electron multipliers may be used between the mesh 11 and screen 4 to intensify the image.
