[Also in Group XXXVI] In a ribbon multipling cable having its conductors arranged in zig-zag formation from edge to edge of the cable and connecting loops in all the conductors at each successive appearance along one edge, the transposition of the conductors of any pair is effected at an appearance of the conductors at the edge remote from the connecting loops so that not more than two conductors are included in the thickness of the cable at any point. The transpositions of different conductors are effected according to different plans, all of which involve transpositions which are symmetrical about the middle of the bank multiple run along the switch shelf, and are different for adjacent pairs of conductors. Adjacent pairs are preferably transposed at different points to reduce cross talk to a minimum, and a 22-conductor cable may be arranged so that five pairs with varying transposition plans lie between two that have the same plan. In a stack of ribbon cables, similarly placed pairs in adjacent cables are differently transposed. In a three-pair cable, the conductors 1, 2 of pair A are transposed at alternate back folds BF1, BF3 without crossing each other. The connector loops at positions SP2, SP3 are crossed outside the body of the ribbon so that the loops appear in the proper order. The conductors 3, 4 of pair B are transposed at BF2, the loops being crossed at SP3. The conductors 5, 6 of pair C are crossed at BF1, and the loops crossed back at SP2, SP3.
