Abstract

694,376. Exhaust-silencers. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd. Sept. 19, 1951 [Nov. 10, 1950], No. 27486/50. Class 7 (ii). A helical baffle 1 formed from a strip of metal corrugated transversely across its width is housed within a tubular member 4, which may be perforated, and is, prior to twisting to helical form, reinforced along its central longitudinal axis, e.g. by welding 3 or by compressing the corrugations. The strip may be of anodized aluminium alloy, or iron or steel provided with a corrosion resistant surface layer of metal such as chromium. The corrugations of the strip may be semi-circular, sinusoidal or V-shaped in form, and the pitch of the helice may be constant or vary. There may be an outer casing 5 into which extends a perforated inlet tube 6 having a closure plate 7 forming an abutment for one end of the baffle.
