Abstract

1393232 Silencers J L VENTER and A D JACOBS 16 July 1973 [17 July 1972] 33820/73 Heading F1B Silencer comprises a moulded glass-fibre/ synthetic resin body 12, moulded end plates 14 formed of woven asbestos sheet impregnated with a heat curable adhesive and a straight through metal pipe 18 having welded thereto flanges 22 which are riveted or bolted to the end plates. The annular space between the pipe and body may be filled with a porous material e.g. slag wool and the part of the pipe within the body has perforations 18.2. In a modification, the inlet pipe extends through one end plate and extends to and abuts against the inner surface of the other end plate. The outlet pipe is displaced laterally from the inlet pipe and extends into the body a distance equal to 1/5 the length of the body. In a second modification the ends of the body are turned inwards to form flanges which retain the end plates. In this construction the body is formed in halves which join along a diametral plane.
