Abstract
694,104. Gill boxes. WARNER & SWASEY CO. Feb. 3, 1950 [Feb. 5, 1949], No. 2825/50. Class 120(i) A gill box comprises faller bar advancing screws 12, 13 for causing a series of faller bars B to traverse with a sliver, return screws 11 and 14 for engaging the ends of the bars, saddles 17 and 18 for guiding the bars during their traverse with a sliver, cam means for transferring said bars from the return screws to said advancing screws, cam means for transferring said bars from the advancing screws to the return screws, and cushioning means carried by said saddles for receiving said bars during transfer, said cushioning means comprising a plunger normally projecting above the surface of said saddles and resilient means, such as a body of rubber-like material, tending to project said plunger, said resilient means being of sufficient strength so that said plunger prevents engagement of the saddles by the bars during transfer and the spacing between said plunger and the guide surface of the opposite saddle being selected so that each faller bar will be resiliently gripped therebetween until said bar is completely seated in the advancing screws. In the arrangement shown, the cushioning means are mounted behind a cover 39 in the saddle 18. A recess 41 is sunk in the end of saddle 18 and holes, 42, preferably square, are broached to intersect the recess. A block 43 of rubber-like material is disposed in the recess and a pair of plungers 46 are disposed in the holes 42. Each plunger is bevelled as at 48 to facilitate sliding of the faller bars over the plungers. As seen in Figs. 3 and 4 the plungers also co-operate with cam surfaces 16a and 19a to resiliently grip the faller bars whilst they are being transferred from the return screws to the lead screws by the usual S-shaped cams. Specification 685,453 is referred to.
