[Also in Group XXVI] A device for indicating and controlling the axial thrust on rotary machines having a thrust bearing disc b on the main shaft a cooperating with one or more thrust bearing blocks e, these bearing surfaces being immersed in oil, comprises a bore s through at least one of the thrust bearing blocks e arranged such that the actual oil pressure subsisting between the thrust block and the thrust disc of the machine may be conveyed to a pressure gauge l. As shown, oil under pressure is admitted to the thrust bearing blocks e at h and is then discharged through the opening i. A branch pipe m from the gauge l leads to some spring-loaded membranes n and o, the membrane n being in working connection with the actuating levers of a centrifugal governor p controlling an admission valve q for the driving medium, whilst the membrane o influences a release device of an emergency shut-off valve should the axial thrust become too great in spite of the action of the centrifugal governor p.
