[Also in Group XXIX] Turbine control gear for ships wherein ahead and astern valves are operated by servomotors supplied with fluid-pressure medium, the pressure of which is controlled by regulating means structurally combined with a manoeuvring device has a reversing valve disposed between the regulating means and the valves. The turbine control gear shown consists of a quick-acting valve 1, an ahead throttle valve 2 and an astern throttle valve 3. The quick-acting valve 1 is closed by a spring and is opened by oil pressure in the space 8 which pressure may be released by the action of safety governors 6 and 7 on the high and low-pressure turbines. Pressure oil pipes 9 and 10 leading to servomotors operating the valves 2 and 3 are fed from a reversing valve 11 to which is connected a control pipe 12. The pressure in the pipe 12 is controlled by a manoeuvring hand wheel 14 acting through a regulating valve 13. A control surface 15 on a sleeve 16 varies the size of the throttling aperture of the valve 13. A valve 17 operated by a push-button 18 is provided to release the pressure in the pipe 19 and so cause the quickacting valve 1 to close. The valves 2 and 3 are operated by servomotors 24, 25 having pilot pistons 22, 23 and follow-up linkage 27. In a modification the hand wheel 14 is arranged to move a screw-threaded sleeve provided with two control surfaces to actuate the valve 13. One of these surfaces is for ahead operation and one for astern. In this arrangement the sleeve is arranged to actuate also the reversing valve. A dead surface is arranged between the control surfaces and the reversing valve is operated when the follower is on the dead surface. The quick-acting valve 1 may also be connected to the manoeuvring valve so that it can only be opened when the follower is on the dead surface. The regulating valve 13 may also be loaded by a fluid pressure by a turbine-driven pump 47 so that on an increase of speed the control pressure in the pipe 12 is lowered and the regulating valve of the turbine closed. This prevents premature operation of the safety governor.
