Abstract

692,728. Protective arrangements. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and CROFT, E. H. Sept. 20, 1951 [Nov. 14, 1950], No. 27828/50. Class 38 (iv). In a lightning, or other excess voltage arrester comprising a horned sparkgap 10 in series with a blow-out coil 12 and a silicon carbide or like non- linear resistor 15, adequate current through the blowout coil to effect rupture of the power arc following the surge is assured by shunting the non-linear resistor 15 by a resistive element 16, the resistance of which does not decrease with increase of current through it, e.g. a metallic or carbon resistor.
