Class 135 [Also in Group XXXIV] A locomotive lubrication system includes a valve 5 for controlling the supply of steam to atomizing means through which the cylinders and steam chests are supplied with oil and the valve is operated by oil pressure obtained from a pump driven from the engine valve gear or other suitable moving part of the locomotive so that the valve is closed when the locomotive is at rest. Steam is supplied through an inlet 9, and an outlet 10 to the atomizers and an exhaust outlet 13 are provided. Oil under pressure from the pump is supplied through conduit 18 to a chamber 17 containing a spring pressed piston 16. An adjustable leak-off passage 19 is provided which is connected to a conduit 21 returning oil to the pump. When the piston 16 rises it closes an exhaust valve 11 through the intermediary of a rod 23 and spring 25. The stem 14 of the valve 1 1 then opens the spring pressed valve 5 and allows steam to pass to the atomizers. When the piston 16 reaches the top of its stroke, it uncovers a safety port 26. When the locomotive comes to rest, the supply of oil to the piston 16 ceases and under the action of springs 7, 22, valve 5 closes and valve 11 opens, whereby the steam supply to the atomizers is cut off and steam remaining in the engine cylinders or valve chests is free to escape through the exhaust outlet 13.
