Abstract
690,743. Two-part couplings; holders for thermionic valves. DEAKIN, -S. T., and HENRY & THOMAS, Ltd. July 4, 1951 [April 5, 1950], No. 8597/50. Class 38 (i). A socket contact especially for a valve-holder is formed from a beryllium copper blank of rectangular shape, by cutting a longitudinal slot therein and bending the blank back upon itself to form a pair of V- or U-shapedlegs 1, 2, interconnected by bridge-pieces 3, 4, constituted by the ends of the blank. The space between the apices of the legs 1, 2 forms the socket mouth, the contact-pin engaging surfaces comprising a pair of tongues 5, 6 projecting respectively from the legs 2, 1, each tongue extending towards that leg to which it is not attached. Hence on insertion of a contact-pin the tongues 5, 6 are forced apart and exert a twisting movement on the legs 1, 2. The bridge-pieces 3, 4 are bent into a V to provide an opening into which the contact-pin may pass after being inserted into the socket mouth. An extension 7 on one end of the blank serves as a terminal tag. In a modification, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), suitable for a larger size contact-pin, the bridge-pieces are bent into arcuate shape and the tongues 5, 6 are bent to define a square-shaped opening. A valve-holder, Figs. 5-7 (not shown), comprises seven socket-receiving apertures, circularly arranged, six apertures being intended to receive the socket of Figs. 1, 2, and one aperture the socket of Figs. 3, 4. The sockets are inserted by pressing together the lower parts of the legs 1, 2, the legs then automatically springing outwardly in the apertures which are shaped so that the sockets are retained and held against rotational movement.
