Abstract

834,139. Two-part couplings. CATOR, W. S. June 13, 1958 [March 15, 1957], No. 8606/57. Addition to 779,946. Class 38 (1). In a multi-contact plug and socket connector according to the parent Specification, the insulating bodies 1 of the complementary coupling parts are each formed in one piece and the cavities therein open on to the rear faces 1a of the bodies to enable the contacts 5, 6 to be introduced therein. The contacts are retained in the cavities by retainers 7 each consisting of a U-shaped metal member with a base apertured at 7c and having integral lugs 7e extending between the arms 7a. The retainer is pushed into a cavity with the terminal tag 5b or 6a extending through the slot 7c until protuberances 7d on the arms 7a snap over shoulders 4 in the walls of the cavity, the lugs 7e then engaging a central bent portion of the contact 5 or 6.
