Abstract

690,398. Road-traffic signs. GUISE, A. Jan. 29, 1952 [Jan. 29, 1951]. No. 2143/51. Class 3(ii). A road traffic stud comprises a body 3 having a cylindrical bore 4 containing a piston 5 which is depressable against a resilient resistance 10 and which is connected to a reflector carrier 8, a flexible sealing diaphragm 11 extending between the top of the body and the reflector carrier, the reflector carrier having passageways 19, 20 in the head whereby upon its depression air is emitted from the passageways to clean areas adjacent the reflectors. The reflector carrier 8 is connected to the piston by a pin 7 and the reflectors 9 are positioned in grooves in the carrier so that they are protected by overhanging hoods 8b. The sealing diaphragm 11 is of rubber and engages a groove 8a in the stem of the carrier and has an upstanding rib 11a which engages beneath an overhanging portion of a ring 13 by which the diaphragm is clamped to the body 3 so as to provide a dirt proof seal. The ring 13 is cut away adjacent each reflector so that it can be seen and wipers 17 are screwed to the ring so that when the carrier is depressed the reflectors are wiped. Air is also forced by such depression through an axial passageway 19 and four radial passageways 20 to clean the space between the carrier and the ring 13.
