Grit is excluded from a wheel brake cylinder 1 by a rubber &c. dust cover 4 secured to the shank 8 of the piston-rod or pressure transmitting member 3 by a rectangular flange or flanges 9 on a bead 6 on the cover engaging a corresponding groove or grooves 7 in the shank 8. A flexible lip 13 on the bead 6 is in sealing contact with the shank 8 and an outer bead 5 on the cover 4 grips the cylinder 1.
