Abstract

689,799. Automatic voltage control circuits for X-ray tube supplies. GENERAL RADIOLOGICAL, Ltd., and QUITTNER, V. July 18, 1951 [July 22, 1950], No. 18362/50. Class 38 (iv). The voltage across an X-ray tube 1 is maintained at a predetermined value by a switching valve 2 in series with the tube and biased by the rectified output of an H.F. oscillator unit 10 controlled by the difference in voltage between a potential divider 4, 5 and a reference potentiometer 8 adjustable to switch the tube on and off and to vary the setting at which the voltage is maintained. The control circuit is insulated from the switch valve by an H.F. transformer 12. As shown, one switching valve is used on each side of the X-ray tube, as described in Specification 689,798, with identical control circuits, a valve 114 being used to reverse the polarity sense of the control voltage in the second circuit, so that both switch valves act in the same sense. In an alternative arrangement the switch valve is normally biased to cut-off, and an auxiliary amplifying valve, also biased to cutoff in the absence of a control signal, allows a positive bias to oppose the switch valve bias as the control voltage is applied, Fig. 2 (not shown), to give a more sensitive control.
