Abstract

689,620. Spray-producers. BEDE, J. A. Dec. 29, 1950, No. 24204/52. Divided out of 689,601, [Group XI]. Class 69 (iii). A process for atomising a coating composition having a solvent therein, without theuse of atomising air, comprises heating the composition while maintaining it under pressure and subsequently releasing the pressure in a spray nozzle, the temperature to which the composition is heated being such that when thus sprayed at least a portion of the solvent is transformed from the liquid to the gaseous state. In the embodiment, coating composition is drawn from a tank 1 by a pump 3, and forced through a heater 4 and conduit 5 to a spray nozzle 6. A conduit 7 is connected to a relief valve 8, whereby the coating composition is constantly recirculated when the nozzle is closed. A check valve 9 is provided. The composition may be heated at least to a temperature corresponding to the boiling point of the solvent at atmospheric pressure.
