689,448. Stays for hinged articles. LANE, Ltd., P. Nov. 19, 1951, No. 27042/51. Class 65 (i) An end-guided stay for a hinged panel 10 comprises a guide bar of uniform crosssection having a base 22 fixed to or formed integrally with the panel and connected to a head 20 by a neck 21 narrower than the head, and a stay bar 14 pivoted at its respective ends to the member carrying the panel and to a slide traversing the guide bar, the slide comprising a pair of jaws 23, 24 embracing the head of the guide bar and adapted to be tightened thereon or to be freed for permitting movement of the slide along the guide bar while retaining it against withdrawal therefrom, by means of a lever 31 adapted to operate jaw-tightening cam means. As shown, the lever is pivoted on a bolt 27 constituting the pivot between the stay bar and slide, and is formed with a cam-face 33 co-operating with a cam-face on jaw 24. The jaws are formed with abutting ribs 29, 30 respectively, and their initial degree of tightness is adjusted by a self-locking nut 28 on the bolt 27. The lever is formed with a notch which co-operates with a fixed pin for locking the panel in the closed position. It is stated that the lever could be provided with a segmental portion adapted to be interposed between jaw 24 and the stay bar or withdrawn completely to allow the jaws to be free, and that, in either of the above forms, the lever could be bifurcated and have limbs co-operating directly with the respective jaws.
