Abstract

683,333. Seats. HALLAM, SLEIGH & CHESTON, Ltd. Sept. 10, 1951 [Sept. 9, 1950], No. 22261/50. Class 52(ii) A vertically or tiltably adjustable seat particularly for vehicles comprises a seat frame adjustable in relation to a base frame by the co-operation of a cross bar, cam or other member associated with one frame with an inclined edge or surface associated with the other frame. As shown in Fig. 1 the base frame comprises two channel members 2 having out-turned flanges 5 the ends being sloped downwardly so that the flanges 6, 7 form ramps. The seat frame comprises an inverted panlike member 8 and the frames are interconnected by links 9, 10 pivoted to the base frame at 11, 12 and to the seat frame by trunnions 9a, 10a. Cross bars 15, 16 engage the ramps 6, 7 and the underedge of the links 9, 10 such that their mutual approach or withdrawal elevates or lowers the seat frame 8. The movement of the cress bars 15, 16 is provided by a screw 17 having left and right hand threads engaging nuts which are respectively connected to the cross rods 15, 16 by rods 22, 23. A spring 24 serves to prevent the seat top from lifting inadvertently. To vary the tilt the links 9, 10 may be arranged at different angles or made of different lengths. In another modification the links may be arranged scissor fashion pivoted, or not, at their crossing point. Specification 679,284 is referred to.
