Abstract

689,428. Measuring heat quantities. LANDIS & GYR AKT.-GES. March 21, 1951 [March 28, 1950], No. 6787/51. Class 97 (iii). [Also in Group XIII] For measuring the quantity of heat in a heating installation having a circulating pump 2, Fig. 1, in which the flow and pressure drop at each heating element 5, 6, is maintained constant independently of the amount of heat given off thereat, the latter being proportional to the setting of regulating devices 7, 8, the apparatus comprises means for measuring the differential temperature between the flow pipe 3 and return pipe 4 and either means for multiplying this differential temperature by a constant value and integrating the product with respect to time or means for integrating the differential temperature with respect to time and means for multiplying the integrated temperature by a constant value. The three-way regulating devices 7, 8, divide the flow of heat carrying medium which is heated by boiler 1, between the associated elements 5, 6, and bypass pipes 9, 10, the latter being so dimensioned, and adjusted regulating sleeves or valves (not shown) being so interposed between the devices 9, 10, and elements 5, 6, that the total resistance to flow of each heating point is independent of the positions of the regulating devices. Tem. perature feelers 13, 14 and 15, 16 are connected to the differential temperature integrating arrangement of the devices 11, 12, which measure the heat consumption of the groups of heaters 5, 6, respectively. In such a device as seen in Fig. 2, the rotation of sun-wheels 17, 18 of a differential gear 19 is a measure of the temperatures in the flow and return pipes respectively, the planet-wheel 20 and hence cam disc 21 being positioned in accordance with the difference between these two temperatures. The position of cam disc 21 relative to a fixed cam disc 22 determines the gap #t which is proportional to the differential temperature and is continually felt out by a roller 23. A similar gap #g determined by the relative posi. tions of cam discs 24, 25, and felt out by roller 28 is proportional to the constant flow of heatcarrying medium, the disc 24 being adjusted by means of a knob 26 relatively to a scale 27. By means of a mechanism as in Specification 612,841, arranged in a casing 29, the product #t #g is formed and integrated with respect to time, the amount of heat being indicated by counting mechanism 30. In a modification in which the upper part of the apparatus is omitted the temperature difference alone is integrated with respect to time, the result being multiplied by a factor depending on the flow of heat-carrying medium. This is accomplished by the counter being preceded by a change speed gear the velocity ratio of which is in accordance with the flow. Such a gear could be without stages or have easily interchangeable change wheels. In a further form the flow pipe temperature and return pipe temperatures are integrated by separate integrating devices and the difference which is subsequently found is multiplied by a value which is maintained constant in accordance with a predetermined setting. Specification 686,064, [Group XIII], also is referred to.
