Abstract

734,681. Measuring heat quantities. SOC. POUR L'EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES C. STRACK ET L. MAUNY. March 27, 1952 [March 27, 1951; March 24, 1952], No. 7924/52. Class 97 (3). [Also in Groups X, XIII and XXXV] In a system (see Group X) for heating a building, hot air is passed from controlled outlets of a main distribution shaft, each outlet communicating with a corridor of one of a number of flats. A thermostat 56 in each corridor may control the motor of a fan, Fig. 12 (not shown), in each outlet and the current consumed by the fan in supplying hot air to the flat may be measured to indicate the heat consumption. In another method, Fig. 16, the outlet is controlled by a damper arrangement and a thermostat 56 regulates the current in two resistances 85 which each heat a bimetallic strip 84 (one shown), attached to an end of one of two slotted plates 80, forming the damper and sliding over each other to operate on a hit-and-miss principle. A meter 96 is connected in parallel with the heaters 85 in a circuit containing parallel resistances 92 adjustable manually by a slider 94 and cut in or out automatically by a mercury thermometer 90 in the circuit and located outside the building. When electricity is supplied to heat the bimetallic strips 84 and allow hot air to enter the flat corridor from the shaft, the current is measured to indicate the heat used. The thermometer 90 introduces a factor depending upon the amount of heat supplied to bring the air up to temperature.
