Abstract
688,807. Straightening by skew rolling. AKTIEBOLAGET MALCUS HOLMQUIST. July 6, 1951 [Nov. 10, 1950], No. 16156/51. Class 83 (iv). A straightening mechanism for round bars comprises a pair of skew rolls and a work support therebetween, each roll having a profile such that the work undergoes two or more alternately opposed angular deflections. Slidably mounted on a base and movable towards and away from each other by screws 4, 5 are two carriages 2, 3 each carrying a roll 6, 7. The rolls are mounted on spindles 8, 9 in housings which are rotatable about axes 12, 13 to vary the inclination of the rolls. The work is supported on a vertically adjustable bar and the relative speeds of the roll driving motors controlled so as to keep the work resting on the support. The profile of the rolls is such that the work undergoes two oppositely directed angular deflections and leaves the rolls along a line displaced laterally from the line of entry. In order to vary the angle of deflection for different materials, one or both rolls is or are adjustable axially either by a displacement along its shaft or by providing for a transverse movement of the roll housings relatively to the carriages 2, 3. Alternatively this result may be attained by using rolls built up of axially adjustable parts.
