Abstract

688,279. Cables. SONNENFELD, I. June 26, 1951 [April 1, 1950], No. 8204/50. Class 36. A cable in which the heat generated by the current flowing therein is abstracted by the method disclosed in Specification 612,482, is maintained at a temperature which is near or below the average temperature of the surroundings. The cable, which is preferably sheathed, is enclosed in an impervious tube which forms a channel for a fluid refrigerant, and is connected either to the outlet or inlet of a compressor. A separate pipe-line is provided between the compressor and a point in the tube remote from the compressor to return the warmed fluid from the cable to the compressor or to feed the cooled fluid to the cable. Alternatively, the fluid may be circulated along channels within the cable, the return channel then lying between the cable sheath and the enclosing tube.
