Abstract

598,761. Junction boxes. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES, Ltd., and BLADES, R. W. Sept. 8, 1945, No. 23196. [Class 38 (i)] A junction box for connecting the supply to a heating element in the form of an electric cable comprises a body 1 divided into two compartments 9, 10 by an insulating partition 8 made of heat-resistant material of low thermal conductivity. The partition 8 is formed in two sections 13, 14 fitted together to hold connectors 29 for the leads 30, 32 of the heating element 11 and a supply cable 12, respectively, and is located by strips 15 which have screwed lugs 16 for the compartment covers 2, 3. Lugs 16 are also formed on strips 19, 21 fixed to the end walls of the box. When the covers are fixed in position they overlap the partition to prevent it moving. The compartment 9 is filled with moisture-proof compound having a high melting-point and a low thermal resistivity, the arrangement being such that heat from the element 11 is dissipated by the walls of the compartment 9 to prevent damage to the insulation of the supply cable. Removable portions 37 of the box may be provided as alternative cable entries. An earthing screw 39 may also be provided.
