Class 64 (ii) A pressure-tight storage vessel for hot liquid is divided by a heat-conducting internal partition into a major compartment maintained full of liquid and a closed minor compartment connecting at its lower end by ports or pipes with the major compartment and having at its upper end a permanent space for air or gas which is compressed as the temperature rises to prevent the liquid boiling. Fig. 1 shows a storage vessel in the form of a lagged horizontal cylinder A with major compartment C<SP>1</SP> and minor compartment C<SP>2</SP> separated by a partition C. The main compartment is filled with water which enters and leaves by valuecontrolled pipes D<SP>2</SP>, D<SP>1</SP>. The compartments are in communication through a valve-controlled pipe E and air is under pressure in the space x of the minor compartment to prevent boiling. A water level gauge G is provided for the minor compartment. The minor compartment may comprise a separate casing entirely within the main casing. Fig. 4 shows a vertical main casing with a partition M<SP>2</SP> terminating short of the casing bottom K<SP>2</SP>, air being compressed in the space x and the pressure being controlled by a valve N<SP>1</SP>.
