[Class 123 (i)] [Also in Group II] A water conduit a in heating, cooling, or other apparatus, is provided with a venturi constriction b formed in a block c and' preferably located in the upper part of the conduit. A closed chamber d, which may be divided by a vertical partition having apertures h is arranged below the conduit a, and the venturi throat is connected to one of the compartments by a depending pipe m or by a U- tube, Fig. 3 (not shown). A liquid for preventing incrustation or corrosion, which is to be added to the water, or alternatively a solid reagent, is placed in the other compartment, which is connected by passage o to the conduit a. The venturi pressure-difference causes a displacement of water downwards through passage o and of reagent upwards through pipe m. In alternatives, the partition may be omitted, or two separate connected chambers may be used.
