Abstract
577,457. Tanks. BRAMSON, M. L. Oct. 23, 1940, No. 15590. [Classes 69 (i) and 135] A tank, particularly for liquid fuel for aircraft, and also for similar purposes, comprises a number of compartments each having its own outlet and each provided with a non-return valve. The outer container 9 houses a number of compartments 11, which may be made of flexible material, suspended by means of wires 14, 15 and communicating at their lower ends through pipes 18 with collector boxes 19, each pipe 18 having at its lower end a non-return valve comprising a float 36 in a cage 35 having ports 37, 38. From the boxes 19 pipes 22 lead to a junction box 23 from which the fuel passes through a sump 28 open to the bottom of the container 9 and thence through a pipe 27, pump 41 and pipe 42 to the engine. A pipe 29, open to the bottom of the container 9 below the compartments 11, leads to a pump 44 which is automatically operated, when a float in a chamber 43 closes an electric circuit. The junction box 23, Fig. 6, comprises a number of segmental spaces 50 communicating with the respective pipes 22 and each fitted with a non- return valve 52 leading to a chamber 53 from which the fuel leaves through the pipe 27. The box also includes a spring-controlled valve 56 which can be opened by means of an actuating lever and cam 61 when it is desired to jettison the fuel. Leak sealing material 49 may be provided.
