Abstract

687,809. Valves. NEUE ARGUS GES. Jan. 9, 1951 [Feb. 27, 1950], No. 603/51. Class 135 [Also in Group XXXIV] A valve controlling the alternate supply and discharge of liquid to and from a container similar to an accumulator is made of elastic material so that, when the valve is deformed by the pressure of liquid applied through an inlet conduit, it first closes off the connection from the container to the outlet conduit and then opens up the inlet conduit to allow liquid to flow into the container, and, when the inlet pressure is cut off, the valve returns to its normal shape closing off the inlet and allowing the container to discharge to the outlet conduit. In its application to a lubricating system, the valve consists of a disc 9, Fig. 1, with an inturned flange 10. When liquid is supplied to the inlet conduit 8 from a pump, the disc is first forced back to cut off communication between the container 1 and the outlet conduit 6, and then the continuing pressure forces the flange 10 outwards out of contact with the conduit 5 so that the oil can flow into the container. When the inlet pressure is cut off, the elastic restoring forces in the valve disc and the back pressure of liquid in the container will restore the valve to the position shown. In a modification, the flange 10 points in the reverse direction and, in the normal condition, contacts the outer surface of the chamber 2 in which it is housed. In a further modification, the valve comprises an apertured diaphragm 18, Fig. 6, and it is shown in the position where the outlet 6 is cut off and fluid is being supplied to the container.
