Abstract

1462952 Dishwashers A F WIGLEY 10 Feb 1975 [23 Jan 1974] 03044/74 Heading A4F [Also in Division F2] A valve controlling the flow of water from a supply to a dishwasher has a valve-member 26 in the form of a float which normally closes a vent 22 but in the event of a drop in pressure in the supply will open the vent to prevent backflow of water through the outlet 20. The inlet 18 is positioned so that the inflow of water into the chamber impinges on the recessed surface 33 of the valve-member to urge it towards the vent. In a modification the rectangular-sectioned flared duct 24 connected to the vent is replaced by an apertured cap (38) covered by a depending skirt (44). The lower end of the valve-member may have a seal to close the inlet when the vent is open. Two such valves 48, 50 are mounted on a central unit 54 supplying a dishwasher 52 and are connected between a solenoid-operated water supply valve 56 and a water softener 60 and a salt bottle 58 for regeneration of the water softener.
