Abstract
687,520. Cutter-bars. CLARE COLLETS, Ltd. Oct. 8, 1951 [Oct. 23, 1950], No. 25740/50. Class 83 (iii). A cutter and mounting for use in facing, counterboring and like operations comprises a bar having a flat along a portion of its length with a number of transverse recesses, at points along the bar, breaking into the flat from one or both sides of the bar, the cutter having a part projecting transversely across its bore at one side thereof so that such part can ride along the bar and can move into a recess when the cutter is turned relatively to the bar with the projecting part in line with the recess. The bar a is provided with a flat d extending to its free end over which passes a double-sided cutter with a central slot bounded by a flat face g. The bar is provided with a number of transverse recesses f breaking into the flat portion into which the portion g is turned to lock the cutter on the bar. The recesses may be of double angle form where the direction of rotation may be reversed, or, may be to one side of the flat only where the bar rotates in one direction only. The part projecting across the bore of the cutter may be formed by a pin and the recesses in the bar rounded to correspond therewith. A singlefaced cutter may be employed. Specification 319,130, [Class 83 (iii)], is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
