Abstract

1,100,045. Cutting tools. METRO-CUTANIT Ltd. 25 May, 1965 [26 May, 1964], No. 21720/64. Heading B3B. In a cutting tool comprising an elongated shank and a replaceable flat tool tip 13 locked in place by a pin 9 extending laterally from the shank through an aperture 11 in the tip 13, a shoulder 3 being provided on the shank and arranged to engage one edge of the tip the pin has that part which extends within the tip formed as an extension of the part of the pin within the tool shank, the extension being cut away in such manner that the tip can be fitted on to the extension without engaging the shoulder 3 in one orientation of the pin and on rotation of the pin relatively to the tool tip, the tool tip is displaced laterally of the pin and forced into engagement with the shoulder 3. The extension is of part circular cross section and arranged with the axis of the part-circular part coaxial with the axis of the part of the pin within the tool shank. The end of the pin 9 is cut away along two flat surfaces which extend in a direction parallel to the axis of the pin and which meet in a ridge. In a modification, Figs. 9, 10 (not shown), the pin is relieved over one half of the circumference to form a face of lesser radius. In other modifications, Figs. 5-8 (not shown), the pin is cut away to form a planar face inclined to the axis of the pin. In further modifications. Figs. 11, 12 (not shown), the hole 5 in the tool shank is inclined to the normal to the flat face 2 of the tool tip, the hole 5 being screw threaded when the modified pin 19, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), is used and unthreaded when the modified pin 19, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), is used.
