Abstract

665,231. Boring-heads and bars. HARRIS, C. W. July 4, 1950 [July 8, 1949], No. 18060/49. Class 83 (iii). A boring-bar has a cutter e housed in a transverse recess therein, as shown in Fig. 1, and secured by threads within the bore of a sleeve f which is formed with threads g of opposite hand to engage threads provided in the recess. The sleeve f is rotated to adjust the cutting diameter by a worm k mounted in the bar so that its helix angle is parallel with engaging spur-teeth h formed on the sleeve, the cutter being prevented from rotating by a feather m. A micrometer-head is provided on the worm which is retained against axial movement by a plate engaging the head. In a modification, Fig. 10, the cutter is carried by a holder secured to the bar by screws s, a screw t being provided to clamp the cutter.
