Abstract
Artificial filaments, yarns, films and similar shaped articles are made by extruding a solution of a cellulose triester of a fatty acid containing at most 4 carbon atoms, e.g. cellulose triacetate or tripropionate, in a solvent mixture containing 50-75 per cent by volume of methylene chloride or ethylene chloride and 50-25 per cent by volume of a fatty acid containing at most 4 carbon atoms, e.g. acetic or propionic acid, into a coagulating bath of which the main or sole constituent is an aliphatic alcohol containing at most 4 carbon atoms, e.g. 90 per cent aqueous ethyl alcohol or aqueous denatured ethyl alcohol, e.g. methylated spirits. The Provisional Specification states that the coagulating bath may comprise acetic acid, acetone, ethers and hydrocarbons.
