Abstract

685,374. Refrigerating. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Oct. 7, 1949 [Oct. 12, 1948], No. 25783/49. Class 29, [Also in Group XXVII]. A double acting refrigerating engine operating on the reversed hot gas engine cycle comprises at least four cylinders arranged in a row each cylinder having a hot working space and a cold working space the hot and cold spaces of the first cylinder 1 and last cylinder 4 of the row each being in free and separate communication with a cold or a hot space respectively in a cylinder arranged between the first and last cylinders of the row. A hot gas engine is described. As shown a junction channel 8 connects the space above a piston 1 A of the cylinder 1 with a space below a piston 2A of a cylinder 2 and a channel 9 connects the space above the piston 2A with a space below a piston 3A and so on, the space above a piston 6A being connected to the space below the piston 1. Each channel comprises a heater, a regenerator and a cooler. All spaces above the pistons are similar i.e. all working spaces are hot or cold spaces. The working spaces above the pistons may be hot spaces. A four cylinder engine is also described.
